Summary:
- The institution must evolve with its mission: How Radu Hanga’s appointment as Chair and Sergiu Oprescu’s addition strengthen the Board’s governance perspective
- Continuity, complemented by new perspectives: The experience brought together by Adriana Lobdă, Bogdan Mihail, Carmen Micu, Diana Stafie and Gabriela Hârțescu
- Building regional relevance from a strong Romanian foundation: Why Envisia’s regional ambition must be built on a strong foundation in Romania
- A Board should create capacity, not only confidence: How the Board can support greater coherence across governance education, professional community and board practice
- The next chapter begins with governance itself
The appointment of a new Board of Directors is often communicated as a change in leadership. Its real significance, however, lies in what the change makes possible.
For Envisia, the new board marks a stage of institutional consolidation. It reflects an ambition to strengthen the organisation’s presence in Romania, deepen its contribution to the professionalisation of board members and gradually develop a more substantial regional role.
This is not only a question of scale, it is a question of institutional capacity: how Envisia governs itself, how it makes strategic choices and how it connects education, professional community and board practice around a shared direction.
The institution must evolve with its mission
Envisia was built around a clear premise: better governance depends on capable, responsible and continually developing board members. Over time, this premise has taken shape through academic and executive education, institutional partnerships, professional dialogue and a growing community of people involved in board work.
These elements are closely connected. Education develops individual capability. Community creates the conditions for exchange, trust and continued learning. Engagement with board practice places that knowledge in the context of real organisations and real decisions.
As this ecosystem develops, the institution behind it must also mature. A broader mission requires governance that can provide direction, challenge assumptions, protect institutional coherence and hold the organisation accountable to its purpose.
In that sense, the new board is not separate from Envisia’s work in governance but it is part of that work.
Continuity, complemented by new perspectives
Radu Hanga’s appointment as Chair provides continuity with Envisia’s mission while bringing substantial experience from capital markets, listed companies and the relationship between business and market institutions.
These perspectives matter because governance does not operate in isolation. Boards must respond to changing expectations from investors, regulators, employees, business partners and society. They must make decisions under uncertainty while protecting both organisational performance and institutional legitimacy.
The appointment of Sergiu Oprescu as an independent board director further strengthens the board’s experience in financial services, complex organisations and collaboration at national and European level. His previous contribution to the Envisia community also reflects an important principle: institutions become stronger when relationships developed through professional dialogue evolve into sustained responsibility.
Alongside Radu Hanga and Sergiu Oprescu, the new Board of Directors brings together Envisia founders Carmen Micu, CEO and Adriana Lobdă, Dean Gabriela Hârțescu, as well as Bogdan Mihail and Diana Stafie. Together, they combine institutional continuity with perspectives from education, entrepreneurship, organisational transformation and governance practice.
The value of this collective experience will not come simply from the individual profiles represented around the table. It will depend on how those perspectives are brought together: to establish priorities, challenge assumptions and help Envisia remain focused as its ambitions develop.
This new chapter also builds on the contribution of Adela Jansen and Simona Pirtea, whose mandates on the board have concluded. Their experience in leadership, organisational transformation, law, entrepreneurship and governance has supported Envisia’s development. Both will remain part of the Envisia community and continue to contribute to its mission—an important expression of continuity beyond formal governance roles.
Building regional relevance from a strong Romanian foundation
The new mandate sets out two connected directions: consolidating Envisia’s role in Romania and gradually extending its regional footprint. The sequence is important. Regional relevance cannot be created by visibility alone. It must be built on credible work, strong partnerships and a community that demonstrates the value of better governance in practice.
Envisia’s relationships with Henley Business School, the Romanian-American University, Academy – Euronext Group and the Bucharest Stock Exchange provide different points of connection between academic knowledge, capital markets, professional education and institutional practice. The opportunity ahead is to turn these relationships—and the experience accumulated through Envisia’s programmes and community—into a more coherent contribution to the governance ecosystem.
This also means developing dialogue across institutional boundaries. Better governance in private companies, listed organisations and public entities cannot advance through isolated initiatives. It requires a shared professional language, relevant standards and sustained exchange between board members, executives, educators and institutions.
A Board should create capacity, not only confidence
For Envisia, a stronger board should do more than add external credibility. It should increase the organisation’s capacity to make clear choices.
That includes deciding where Envisia can make the greatest contribution, how its education, community and board-related initiatives should reinforce one another, and how growth can be pursued without diluting the organisation’s purpose.
It also requires discipline. Not every governance topic needs another event, programme or public intervention. Institutional maturity means choosing where Envisia has a distinctive point of view, where it can convene the right people and where it can produce useful outcomes for boards and organisations.
The board’s contribution will therefore be measured not only through expansion, but through coherence: clearer priorities, stronger relationships, relevant initiatives and a consistent connection between Envisia’s mission and its decisions.
The next chapter begins with governance itself
Envisia’s stated ambition is to support the professionalisation of board members, strengthen the capacity of boards to govern responsibly and contribute to a culture grounded in trust, integrity, performance and accountability.
The new board does not complete that ambition. It creates stronger conditions for pursuing it.
For an organisation dedicated to governance, the way it structures its own leadership is itself a statement. Envisia’s new board signals that its next chapter will be built not only through what the organisation teaches or convenes, but through the institutional strength behind that work.
