Renowned Speakers Gather for the Future of Governance International Conference 2025 on May 20th
At a time when global systems face social, economic, and technological disruptions, governance is undergoing critical examination. On May 20, 2025, Envisia – Boards of Elite will host the 4th edition of the Future of Governance International Conference at the historic Central University Library “Carol I” in Bucharest. This year’s theme, “Driving Societal Progress Through Excellence in Governance,” highlights the need for a deep analysis of how governance models must evolve to remain relevant and effective.
The conference will bring together a dynamic mix of former ministers, economists, legal innovators, corporate executives, and civic leaders who will participate in keynotes, informal dialogues, and high-level panels on the future of decision-making in business, governance, and civil society.
The event will open with a keynote by Lorenzo Fioramonti, a renowned political economist, member of the Club of Rome, and former Italian Minister of Education. His speech, “Governance of the Wellbeing Economy,” challenges traditional GDP-driven economic models, proposing a systemic shift that places human and environmental wellbeing at the core of both public and corporate governance.
Five panels will tackle the most pressing governance themes of today:
Governance for Leadership Longevity
Shruti Singh (Senior Economist, Ageing and Employment Policies, OECD), Alina Popa (Chief Financial Officer and Executive Board Member, OMV Petrom SA), and Flavia Popa (Secretary General, BRD – Groupe Société Générale) will explore how demographic shifts and ageing populations are reshaping the workforce, and how multigenerational leadership strategies can build more resilient, future-ready organisations.
AI and Blockchain Ecosystem Governance
Eduard Goean (Vice President of New Business Partnerships, Therme Group | Visiting Professor, University of Surrey, UK) and Flavia Kenyon (Barrister, The 36 Group | CEO and Founder, Root Series) will explore algorithmic trust, decentralised systems, and how blockchain can support transparency and accountability in emerging governance architectures.
Good Governance and Civil Society
Alongside Professor Nada Kakabadse (Professor of Policy, Governance & Ethics, Henley Business School), Mădălina Marcu (Development Director, ARC Romania), and Professor Costel Negricea (Rector, Romanian-American University), this panel will examine the power and responsibility of civil society organisations in fostering democratic accountability, equity, and inclusive public engagement.
Corporate Governance Innovation: The Impact of Benefit Corporations
Juan Diego Mujica Filippi (Impact Law and Governance Lead, Nativa) and Lorenzo Fioramonti (Academic Director, NATIVA Campus and Ecosystem Catalyst, Nativa) will discuss the evolution of benefit corporations with Andrew Kakabadse (Professor of Governance and Leadership, Henley Business School | Chair, Envisia – Boards of Elite). The panel will analyse international trends and the potential of these models within the Romanian and European context.
The Future of Governance and Romania: Macroeconomic and Geopolitical Context
In the closing session, Ionuț Dumitru (Chief Economist, Raiffeisen Bank Romania) and Alexandru Nazare (Board Member, National Bank of Romania | President, PanEuropa Romania) will provide crucial insights into Romania’s positioning on the governance map, highlighting fiscal, geopolitical, and policy challenges.
The Future of Governance Conference is a unique platform that connects political leaders, corporate decision-makers, academics, and changemakers dedicated to sustainable leadership and systemic innovation. The full agenda and list of speakers HERE
